Dr Hilary Marlow

Trustee, A Rocha International

Biblical scholar Dr Hilary Marlow is a freelance researcher, writer and speaker on theology and the environment in a wide range of contexts, both secular and faith based. She is a Fellow, Graduate Tutor and Director of Studies at Girton College, Cambridge, and teaches Old Testament in the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. Her first degree was in social sciences, followed (some years later) by a BA in biblical studies at King’s College London and a PhD at Cambridge on reading the biblical prophets in the light of environmental ethics, published as Biblical Prophets and Contemporary Environmental Ethics (Oxford 2009).

In 1996, Hilary and her husband Ian co-founded HFM Tax & Accounts, an accountancy business now based in the City of London and serving SMEs in the UK and beyond, where her current responsibilities include internal financial management and procedures. She is a trustee of Girton College and a member of its Financial Planning Sub-Committee. Until December 2019 she was a founding trustee and treasurer of Rose Castle Foundation.

Hilary is passionate about environmental issues and has been involved with A Rocha since its earliest days, serving from 1998-2005 as a trustee and then treasurer. Since then she has also been a trustee of A Rocha UK (2014-18).  An enthusiastic birder, Hilary relaxes by tending a small field just outside Cambridge with her husband Ian, where they grow fruit and vegetables and have nesting barn owls.
