Equipping the church

A Rocha resources Christians for environmental action in countless ways, including hands-on conservation projects, written materials, teaching in churches, seminaries and conferences and by involvement in global networks.

In 2015 A Rocha provided speakers at 500 Christian conferences and churches, reaching over 49,000 people.

How do A Rocha Projects make a difference?

In New Zealand, wilderness expeditions enable young people to consider biblical themes such as creation care, servanthood and simplicity whilst hiking, rafting and mountain-biking. Many have gone on to exercise Christian leadership in other contexts. More

A Rocha Netherlands gets Christians involved in a huge range of practical nature conservation activities through 13 local groups.  Some are involved in wildlife monitoring, others have adopted a local site where they regularly undertake habitat improvements, such as creating ponds or cutting back encroaching scrub from valuable open areas.

A Rocha UK’s Eco Church is an online survey and suite of resources enabling churches to become more environmentally-friendly. Launched in January 2016, over 300 churches had registered by June!

A Rocha Uganda is training Kampala pastors in environmentally-sensitive development such as briquette-making from waste materials to replace traditional charcoal and insulated basket construction so that hot food continues to cook, both reducing fuel needs and thus reducing deforestation. One pastor was so encouraged by the local impact that he visited 12 other churches and persuaded them to undertake the same training. He says, ‘Our church is growing and the future looks bright.’

PLEASE HELP US! Through ‘Gifts With a Difference’ at shop.arocha.org you could provide a Ugandan family with a fireless cooker or train ten people to make briquettes: both gifts reduce fuel use, save trees and save money for cash-poor families.

A Rocha Uganda is also training community members around Kampala to create their own tree nurseries as a source of family income and to mitigate against climate change. Your gift could provide a day of training for ten people.
