Wanted! Fieldworkers for a week in France

A Rocha France is seeking two kinds of volunteers for a science week from 27-31 July at Domaine des Courmettes, our centre in the Côte d’Azur.

Firstly, they want fieldworkers with skill in identifying Mediterranean reptiles, amphibians, small mammals or insects (especially moths, coleoptera and orthoptera).  The team wants to fill in gaps in their faunal knowledge of this very beautiful 600 hectare site, which includes forest, pasture, marshes and cliffs. In October, Chamois was added to the mammal list, so we feel confident that if such a large animal could have been overlooked, there are lots of other species still to be recorded! A few generalists, botanists and ornithologists would be welcome too.

Also, English speakers who are fit and have some basic scientific skills are invited to volunteer as part of the ongoing carbon absorption research. Their work will involve taking measurements of tree samples.

If you can identify this grasshopper, perhaps you could help A Rocha France in July? (R & B Mearns)
