Tell Ghana’s President: no more mining!

A Rocha’s recent discovery of a Critically Endangered White-naped Mangabey Cercocebus lunulatus living in Atewa Forest has moved over 6,000 people to sign our petition. We’re calling on the President of Ghana to turn Atewa into a National Park, the only lasting solution to the threats against this unique landscape and its human and non-human inhabitants. If you haven’t already, please sign the petition and encourage your friends and relations to do so too.

Several NGOs have backed the campaign by petitioning the Chinese Development Bank to take Atewa Forest out of the Ghana-China bauxite deal, while community organizations have called for a comprehensive environmental assessment and full disclosure of the bauxite deal. This would bring transparency to the situation and enable local Ghanaians to understand issues of compensation and make their voices heard.

The White-naped Mangabey (Cercocebus lunulatus) was discovered during the course of a camera trapping survey of Atewa Forest. A Rocha scientists were trying to establish the current status of animals living on the forest floor which are often vulnerable to hunting and trapping.
