How do you bring back a forest?

In Talara, the westernmost city in mainland South America, A Rocha Peru has been working in partnership with ContourGlobal and local communities to protect and restore a dry forest ecosystem. The results are impressive. Over the past four years, more than 12 hectares of degraded land have been reforested with nearly 2,500 native trees. This is encouraging natural regeneration by native plants and nesting by birds such as the endangered Peruvian Plantcutter Phytotoma raimondii.

This little community embodies the essence of conservation optimism and its progress has been captured on film. Watch the story of the third year of the project, narrated by those involved, such as Victor, the vice president of the environmental club ‘A Rocha Kids’ and Ilmer, a field worker from one of the neighbourhood councils in Talara.
