Congratulations Prof Oteng-Yeboah!

Prof Alfred Oteng-Yeboah, the Board Chair of A Rocha Ghana, has been awarded the John C. Phillips Memorial Medal, the highest conservation award bestowed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The medal is presented once every four years at the IUCN World Conservation Congress to recognize outstanding service in the field of the conservation of nature and natural resources. Previous recipients include distinguished conservationists such as Sir David Attenborough, Mrs Indira Ghandi and Professor E.O. Wilson.

‘Your dedication to establishing a mechanism for placing biodiversity on the political agenda is exemplary,’ said Dr Grethel Aguilar, Acting Director General of the IUCN, in a letter to Prof Oteng-Yeboah. ‘We congratulate your work in chairing and in laying the foundations for managing the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative, as well as your participation and service on a number of high-profile bodies, and your work as a Professor of Botany who inspired young minds.’

We join the A Rocha family in congratulating Prof Oteng-Yeboah on this prestigious recognition from the IUCN – a testament to his enormous contribution to biodiversity conservation in Ghana and around the world.

The Awards Ceremony will take place at the World Conservation Congress, due to take place in Marseille in January.
