All I want for Christmas is …

Christmas will be different for all of us this year. But for some, the gift of clean water will be even more precious.

In Uganda, 9 million people lack access to clean, safe drinking water, meaning that people die every day from preventable diseases. A bio-sand water filter will remove up to 99% of pathogens and parasites without the need for chemical treatment or boiling, reducing water-borne diseases. The reduced charcoal use also means that families have more money to spend on other essentials and, with fewer trees needing to be cut down, habitats are protected.

During the pandemic, when many Ugandans have lost income and struggled to afford fuel, the filters have ensured that families continue to have access to clean water, keeping them healthy and well. Adikini Safirani, whose family lives in Mutungo slum, says ‘If we did not have a filter, we would have challenges of spending more money to buy charcoal and yet our income was affected so much. My wish is for other people to get an opportunity to receive a water filter.’

You can give the gift of clean water today by purchasing a bio-sand filter through Gifts with a Difference. Or browse the whole catalogue at shop.arocha.org. Each order comes with a beautiful, free card to remind your loved one of the difference made in their name.
