A Rocha Kenya’s new education centre

Bishop talkingOn 7 October 2014 the Bishop of Mombasa, the Rt Rev Julius RK Kalu, officially opened the new environmental education centre at Mwamba, on the Kenyan coast. Showers of rain failed to deter 150 guests from gathering, including the head teachers from all the private and public schools in Watamu, Dabaso and Dongokundu.

The Bishop spoke about the importance of safeguarding forests and rivers, and teaching children to do likewise. He then led the gathering in prayer for the flourishing of local habitats and livestock.

The new building has offices, meeting rooms and displays which widen the scope of A Rocha Kenya’s teaching and training activities with local school groups, ASSETS students and people of all ages. It’s also a resource for the wider community, for conferences and regular meetings. Already it’s been used for training in climate change adaptation and Community Forest Association meetings.
