A first for Environmental Education

Learning more about microplastics (Chris Walley)

Learning about microplastics

A warm welcome awaited A Rocha delegates from France, Portugal, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the UK as they arrived at Les Courmettes, A Rocha’s field study centre in the south of France, though wind rattled the shutters, rain lashed the windows and mist clung to the mountain, totally obliterating the view of the Mediterranean coastline. The following two days saw us getting up to speed on Sustainable Development Goals, then learning how plastics get into our rivers and oceans and some of the work being done by A Rocha to tackle these problems.

A beautiful, sunny morning was spent in the pretty medieval village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup at the Fête des Violettes. Then, in the final afternoon, we looked at the impact of our work and how to measure it, and finished by considering the way forward as a group of A Rocha people enthused about environmental education and sustainable development.

All of this was interspersed with chances to get to know one another better, to hear what we have done recently in environmental education and to share some of our ideas and resources.

We shall be keeping in touch and looking forward to the possibility of meeting together in the future.
