God’s Gardeners, Singapore’s first creation care book!
On 17 January, God’s Gardeners: Creation Care Stories From Singapore and Malaysia, was launched! Commissioned by Graceworks and edited by Melissa Ong and Prarthini Selveindran of Friends of A Rocha in Singapore, this collaboration is Singapore’s first creation care book. It asks: ‘What does creation care look like where we are?’
Ong and Selveindran answer with diverse stories: theological reflections, personal journeys, case studies as wide-ranging as church renovation and amphibian diversity, and commentaries on mission, education and finance. The book gives voice to those who clearly view their care for creation as love in action and an act of worship, a reaching towards just and joyful living – ultimately as a way of being in God’s world. A more holistic understanding of the good news is affirmed: declaring the Lordship of Christ cannot be separated from caring for his creation.
The launch, attended by about 80 people, was held at Katong Presbyterian Church, featured in one of the stories. Friends of A Rocha in Singapore also launched ‘Moving Classroom’, a series of monthly environmental activities. The book can be ordered from the Book Depository, with an e-version available from mid-February.
